A FASCINATION WITH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE.

It was as early as during her higher secondary education that Michaela discovered her passion for languages and cultures, and she passed her A-level exams for German, English, French and Spanish with distinction. After her graduation from high school, she worked for several international companies in order to consolidate and develop her language skills. In spring 2004, she finally decided to study translation at the Centre for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna and chose the working languages German, Spanish and French. During her student days, Michaela read and travelled a lot to actively explore the language and culture of her working languages. One of those experiences was a voluntary service in February 2008 in Ecuador, where Michaela taught th e basics of the English language to underprivileged children. It was during this time that she met her husband. After graduating from university, Michaela and her husband lived for one year in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito. Today, the couple live in Lower Austria.

Even during her student days, Michaela was able to build up valuable experience and develop her skills as a freelance translator, as well as beginning to build up and extend her professional network. For her master’s thesis, she carried out a project around the introduction of a translation and terminology management system for an international office furniture manufacturer. In March 2009, Michaela graduated with distinction from her master’s in "Technical Translation and Terminology" and founded KöNiG Sprachenservice. In order to make full use of her enthusiasm for languages and cultures, Michaela offered private language coaching, even back during her student years. She enjoyed this approach to language very much and decided to follow a distance learning course in order to acquire professional didactic and pedagogic knowledge. Building on this, Michaela was teaching French as an optional subject at the Marketing University for Applied Sciences in Wieselburg, Lower Austria, until her first maternity leave. Since the summer semester of 2012, she also teaches translation from Spanish to German and viceversa at the University of Graz, Styria as well as at the Centre for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna. Alongside her passion for translation, terminology work and language teaching, Michaela enjoys proofreading and editing German texts. She has gained extensive experience of proofreading and editing; especially bachelor’s and master’s theses.

Lifelong learning is of utmost importance for knowledge workers. This is why Michaela has committed herself to permanent further training. She passed 2 courses in Dutch language, attended a training course to strengthen her knowledge of the translation memory tool SDL Trados 2011, participated in a preparation course for the English language test TOEFL, and completed a long distance course to become a teacher for German as a foreign language. In 2013, Michaela attended an "advanced" training for Adobe InDesign as well as an intensive interpretation training. Michaela's well-founded education and her enthusiasm and desire for knowledge, as well as the careful selection of her professional partners, guarantees you language services of the highest quality.
